Katy Perry may have been physically absent from this year’s Met Gala, but that didn’t stop her from becoming one of the most talked-about names on the internet. Thanks to a series of AI-generated images, the pop icon once again “attended” the prestigious fashion event — virtually — and left fans stunned by the hyper-realistic visuals.

As photos began circulating online, many believed Perry had shown up in a striking black latex gown paired with a sharply tailored pinstripe blazer. Set against the iconic Met steps with this year’s blue carpet, the images looked convincingly real — until eagle-eyed fans noticed minor distortions, particularly around the waist where the outfit appeared to awkwardly blend into her skin. That clue quickly sparked speculation, later confirmed: the images were entirely AI-generated.

What’s more, Perry’s name was missing from the leaked guest list, and according to The Daily Mail, she is currently busy with the North American leg of her Lifetimes Tour, scheduled to perform in Houston the following day. Her packed schedule made attending the event highly unlikely.
Despite the truth coming out, fans couldn’t stop praising the digital creation. Social media erupted with comments claiming that AI-Katy looked better than many of the real attendees, with some suggesting she outshone even Kim Kardashian, Rihanna, and Gigi Hadid.

This isn’t the first time AI-Katy has “attended” the Met Gala. In 2024, similarly lifelike images went viral showing her in a dramatic floral ball gown, perfectly tailored to the then-theme “The Garden of Time.” At that time, Perry had reacted with humour, posting: “Couldn’t make it to the MET; had to work.”
