Exclusive: âœHe Was Always Thereâ – Supriya Pathak On Shahid Kapoor
At the recent Filmfare Actors’ Roundtable, Supriya Pathak delved into the intricacies of balancing a flourishing career with familial responsibilities. Reflecting on her journey, she shared heartfelt insights into her relationship with stepson Shahid Kapoor and the conscious choices she made for her children.
“I met Shahid when he was six years old. So, for me, he was the cutest baby I’d seen. He was such a lovely child,” Supriya reminisced. Their bond, forged early on, has only strengthened over the years. “He was very warm and he did not have any defiant reactions towards me, and nor did I have them too. So, when we met, it was instantly liking each other as people,” she added.

Discussing her family dynamics, Supriya emphasised Shahid’s integral role. “Shahid is their brother. He is their elder brother, bhai! He is an integral part of the family. He is our main anchor,” she stated, highlighting the close-knit bond between Shahid and her children, Sanah and Ruhaan.
Choosing to prioritise her family, Supriya took a significant break from acting. “I took a definite break because I wanted to have kids and I wanted to be with them. My elder daughter is Sanah and my younger one is my son Ruhaan, and of course Shahid was always there but he was a bigger boy by then. Till Sanah was about 12 I didn’t work,” she revealed.

However, the hiatus wasn’t without its challenges. “But since I am an actor, I became a pain for my husband because he was working and I was not. So, I was like you are still getting work and I am still staying at home. Though it was my decision. Pankaj always tells me, ‘Tum hamesha roti rahi hu (You always cry),’” she shared with a chuckle.
To support her passion, Pankaj Kapur initiated a production company, entrusting Supriya with the role of executive producer. “He started a production company and wrote, directed, and produced projects, making me the executive producer– a job I initially knew nothing about but learned over time,” she recounted.
Supriya Pathak’s narrative is a testament to the delicate balance between personal aspirations and familial commitments, underscoring the profound bonds that define her life both on and off the screen.
