Shah Rukh Khanâs Mannat Makeover Faces Heat As BMC and NGT Probe Norm Violations

Shah Rukh Khan’s iconic home, Mannat in Bandra, found itself under official scrutiny this week after activist Santosh Daundkar filed a complaint claiming unauthorised construction work. A combined team from the BMC and forest department visited the premises to inspect potential Coastal Regulation Zone (CRZ) and heritage site violations.Coincidentally, the Khan family has temporarily relocated to a luxury apartment in Pali Hill during the extensive renovation period.
Mannat comprises two distinct parts: the original heritage grade building known as Villa Vienna, and the newer multi-storey annexe undergoing expansion. The complaint states that the annexe, originally approved as twelve 1BHK units, has been unlawfully merged into a single opulent residence. Also alleged unauthorised additions, including extra floors or basement extensions.Despite the allegations, SRK’s manager, Pooja Dadlani, was quick to dismiss any wrongdoing. “There are no complaints. All work is going on as per guidelines,” she stated, emphasising that the renovation is fully sanctioned and compliant. Staff from Mannat also assured visiting officials that all applicable permissions will be made available soon.
At present, Shah Rukh and his family reside in a spacious four-storey rental at Puja Casa, paying around Rs. 24 lakh per month.
The legal tussle continued with the activist escalating the matter to the National Green Tribunal (NGT), alleging breaches of Coastal and environmental rules, including missing CRZ clearance. The NGT has asked Daundkar to submit detailed evidence within four weeks, failing which the petition may be dismissed.
Mannat isn’t just SRK’s residence- it’s a cultural trophy, an emblem of Mumbai. Its façade graces countless film fans’ pilgrimage lists. Renovations of such landmarks invariably stir debate. Now, authorities and legal bodies are treading carefully to ensure all modifications have been approved and documented.
Direction of Gauri Khan and with design points guided by the Coastal Zone rules, the annexe is being sensitively integrated with the heritage structure. While the physical work is ongoing, Shah Rukh remains occupied with his upcoming projects like King and others- filming continues elsewhere as Mannat undergoes its overhaul.Ultimately, this matter underlines the delicate balance between private celebrity residences, heritage preservation, and Mumbai’s coastal regulations. With official scrutiny ongoing and the renovation legally supported, the spotlight is firmly on ensuring Mannat’s future blends both glamour and grace.
