The recent adaptation was released on September 18 and earned $26 million on its opening day at the domestic box office. In its opening weekend, the film earned over $100 million at the worldwide box office. The film slowed down during its opening week. On its first Thursday, the film collected $3.3 million, a 26% drop from its Wednesday total. In a week, the film collected $46 million, bringing its worldwide total to $126.5 million.

Directed by Zach Cregger, the film brings back age-old horror. The movie follows the protagonist, Austin Abrams, who plays Bryan.
