Sitaare Zameen Par trailer: Aamir Khan mentors a special team in this emotional sports drama

The trailer for Sitaare Zameen Par, starring Aamir Khan, dropped on Tuesday, and fans couldn’t be happier. The much-anticipated glimpse introduces us to Gulshan, a once-respected basketball coach who’s now dealing with the consequences of his reckless and arrogant behaviour. After an ugly encounter with the police and a court case, he’s ordered to coach a basketball team made up of individuals who are specially abled. His rude, politically incorrect attitude lands him Rs.5000 fine, setting the stage for a story about transformation and second chances.
Directed by RS Prasanna, the film is described as a spiritual sequel to the beloved Taare Zameen Par, though it takes a very different approach. Instead of the gentle, nurturing character Aamir played in the 2007 film, Sitaare Zameen Par introduces us to someone who’s completely out of touch with empathy. The story is based on the Spanish film Champions, and it introduces ten fresh faces playing the members of Gulshan’s team. Produced by Aamir Khan Productions and written by Divy Nidhi Sharma, the film was initially set to release its trailer earlier, but it was delayed due to the Pahalgam attack and rising tensions in the region.
In an earlier conversation with his fans in China, Aamir had mentioned that this new role is the polar opposite of his previous one in Taare Zameen Par. Gulshan is brash, offensive, and doesn’t care how his words land. In the trailer, he mocks the team and uses the word “pagal” without hesitation. But the film seems to chart his emotional journey as he spends more time with the players, learning to see them — and himself — in a new light. Genelia’s husband, actor Riteish Deshmukh, praised the trailer on social media, calling it “extraordinary,” which further boosted excitement among fans.

Despite being named after the team, Sitaare Zameen Par looks like it’s more about Gulshan’s journey than anyone else’s. Still, the film aims to highlight the importance of inclusion and changing perspectives on specially abled people. Genelia Deshmukh plays the love interest, adding a personal angle to the coach’s story. Supporting actors like Dolly Ahluwalia, Gurpal Singh, and Brijendra Kala round out the cast. With humour, heart, and a strong social message, the film is shaping up to be a meaningful family entertainer.
